ENGLISH VERSION BELOW

We are surrounded by clouds, on our way, on a flight to Edinburgh. At last, after months of preparations we are nearing our destination: in an hour we will land in the Scottish capital and we are ready to join in the multitude of artists and spectators who populate the Fringe in greater numbers year after year. There are five people in our staff including artists, technicians and those of us responsible for the marketing – box office sales and leaflet distribution.  The Fringe is a highly competitive environment: the city is covered with posters and flyers – you need to come prepared. For a bigger impact, we printed 20.000 flyers and 1.000 posters; we also got T-shirts and fleeces with the MADE IN ILVA brand to wear during flyering and media exposure in order to maximize promotion.

We wear our T-shirts on leaving Bologna for the journey and soon enough we are reassured as the person behind us in the queue while looking at his phone tells us to have just received an invitation to the opening performance of MADE IN ILVA from the Italian Institute in Edinburgh and is pleasantly surprised to find us there.

As soon as we arrive in Edinburgh, the mad rush starts: meetings with the box office, media office, arts industry office, meetings at Fringe Central and the exhausting assembling of our show until 3:00 am.

We are ready for the debut and we have very good news: METRO, the free press with largest UK distribution, publishes an article on our show a day before the opening night!  We couldn’t have had a better start!

The first days of the Festival are especially dedicated to the previews: the participating shows are countless and there is a high percentage of Italian shows this year. Italian theatre at the Fringe has doubled compared to the previous edition and several companies are already established and working in Edinburgh.

Here are the Italian companies performing at the Fringe: Teatro Instabile and Theandric Teatrononviolento con ANTIGONE, Compagnia Teatro in Centro con PHATOS Can you kill for love?, Charioteer Theatre and Vxx Zweetz con LIGHT KILLER, Ennio Marchetto con ENNIO MARCHETTO: The Living  Paper Cartoon, FRANCESCO DE CARLO con ITALIANS DO IT LATER, I Bugiardini con SHHH – An Improvised Silent Movie, Carlo Jacucci con VITAMIN, Riccardo Busccarini / Tir Danza con ATHELTES, Valentina Sulas con THE MOTHER OF THE PRIEST, Ursa Maior Theatre con MARCEL VOL.I – Italian Politics as a Work Art, C&C Company con MARIA ADDOLORATA, Compagnia LTD con MOTION&MOTION, Baccalà Clown con PSS PSS , Sonics con SONICS IN DUUM, Deja Donne con WILL, Fattoria Vittadini con iLOVE, Teatro Delle Moire con ELVI’S STARDUST, Naturalis Labor double bill con THE CUT TUK SHOW, oltre al Musical SIDDARTHA, la soprano Federica Gatta, i concerti di DiapasonG Choir, ANTONIO FORCIONE, Luca Villani.
